There are seven competency areas: Civic and Community Responsibility, Diversity and Identity, Global and Intercultural Comprehension, Innovation and Creativity, Interdisciplinarity, Professionalism, Sustainability.
Engagement courses for Plant Sciences majors include:
- PLS/PLP 399, PLS/PLP 499 Independent Study
- PLS/PLP 392, PLS/PLP 492 Directed Research
- PLS/PLP 393, PLS/PLP493 Internship
With these courses, students work in faculty research settings, and campus facilities including the Arizona Genomics Institute, The BIO5 Institude, The UA Herbarium, scientific institutes around the world and industry partners in the southwest. Students apply knowledge of biology, genetics, genomics and biotechnology to improve plants grown for food, medicines, fuel and materials.
